What kind of fireplace do you have?
Do you know what type of fireplace you have? I will give you a hint. It is either a masonry or prefabricated fireplace. Both chimneys provide warmth and enjoyment. However, there are some distinct differences between the two. If you are not sure what kind of fireplace you have, read below.
Masonry fireplace
Masonry fireplaces and chimneys are constructed from stone or brick and mortar. They can also be identified by a brick chimney above the roof. Unlike prefabricated fireplaces, a masonry fireplace is built on site brick by brick, giving the mason ultimate control of the final product. With proper care and maintenance, most masonry fireplaces provide warmth and stress free relaxation!
prefabricated fireplace
Prefabricated fireplaces and chimneys are designed in the factory. These systems have a metal firebox with precast factory panels. If you look up your damper you will see a round metal chimney. Don't let the facade of your fireplace trick you. Often times, prefabricated fireplaces have a decorative facade of brick, stone, or tile. With proper installation and maintenance, they can give years of service
